Chapter Ten
Ashlyn sat on the bed, her eyes tired and body feeling heavy. The last few days, she had been so tired and had only wanted to sleep. She had asked Ava about it when she had been awake, Ava told her it was her body adjusting to the ocean and to just go with it.
Abby hadn’t been back yet, but another mermaid had brought a change of clothes for her. She hadn’t changed into them yet, they still sat at the end of the bed. Ashlyn had been sleeping so much, everything was a blur. She hadn’t even eaten anything.
“Do you think you can stay awake enough to eat?” Ava questioned as she saw Ashlyn’s eyes were opened. She frowned, still seeing how tired she was. It only took her a day almost two to get her body used to the bond and being underwater. The only thing Ava could think of why Ashlyn was having such a hard time was because she had more merfolk bonded to her than Ava did.
“I may be able to, but I’d rather sleep than eat, to be honest.” Ashlyn whispered, closing her eyes again. She was comfortable in the bed and really wanted to sleep again. One, it made her not think about what was going to happen to her, and two, she really was tired and was having a hard time keeping her eyes open.
“Come on, let's get you up. Food has been brought, and you should eat.” Ava told the girl, a frown on her lips. She was starting to worry about Ashlynn.
“Food will probably help you feel better,” she told Ashlyn, pulling her into a sitting up position. Ashlyn’s eyes were unfocused as she sat up, almost like she was hypnotised.
“Okay . . . okay,” Ashlyn muttered as she let Ava drag her off the bed into a standing position. Ava dragged Ashlyn to a table that was sitting in the corner by the window, there were only two chairs, and the table had plates already sitting in front of each seat.
Looking at the food, Ashlyn blinked, “What is this?” She hadn’t even thought of what merfolk ate. Looking at the table there wasn’t even any silverware, “And are we supposed to eat with our hands?”
“I don’t know what it is called, but I think it is a breakfast food. I only have had it during that time.” Ava told her, moving a cup towards Ashlyn. The cup looked to be made of pink crystal, and the liquid inside of it was red.
Ashlyn paled at the drink color, almost afraid to ask what it was.
Ava, seeing the look on her face, laughed, “It is a kind of juice. It is almost a mix between cherries and strawberries.”
This had made Ashlyn feel a bit better, but she still didn't know if she wanted to eat or drink anything she was given.
“As for eating it, most meals are eaten with your hands. There are some meals where you will have something similar to a knife, but that is about it.
